The Mexican government honored the Center for Culture, Art, Training, and Education (CCATE) with the 2018 Ohtli Award last night. The Mexican Ministry of Foreign Affairs recognized it as one of the institutions that has improved the lives of Mexican Americans in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania.
Alicia Kerber-Palma, chief consul of the Mexican Consulate in Philadelphia, presented the award, whose name comes from the Nahuatl word for path .
The vision behind CCATE’s creation helps this community-driven organization develop the talent that Mexicans, Mexican-Americans, and people from Latin America contribute and multiply it with the local community and beyond.”Alicia Kerber-Palma
Obed Arango Hisijara, executive director of CCATE, said the recognition honors the nonprofit’s commitment to helping young people in the community .

Senator Daylin Leach (D-Montgomery) presented a proclamation signed by the Pennsylvania State Senate , to highlight his support for the organization.
Founded in 2011, CCATE serves 275 Latino families in Norristown, who participate in educational, arts, health, and environmental science programs on the third floor of The Center Theatre. CCATE is the tenth organization to receive the Ohtli Award, which was first given in 1996, and the first organization to do so in the Philadelphia region .

Kenneth Trujillo, a businessman of Puerto Rican origin, was the last to receive the Ohtli Award in the region, in 2005.

The Mexican Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Institute for Mexicans Abroad are the entities that grant the award, which recognizes individuals and organizations that seek to pave the way for Latinos in the United States .
