During my first semester at the CUNYJ School, I started working with Carmen Villavicencio, the Executive Editor for El Diario NY. She was always available and willing to work on my daybook and enterprise stories, while I developed a better understanding and engagement with the communities of Washington Heights and Inwood, and NYC as a whole.
It was a great place to transition from my print/general reporting experience to a new multimedia digital storytelling, the one I will dive into, as soon as grad school turns dead serious. Reason why I appreciate the opportunity she gave me and for her editorial advice. Between September, 2016 and February, 2017, I worked on the following:
- El Diario NY, Arts and Culture: 5th Bronx Latin American Art Biennial .
- The NY Daily, Faith and Religion: Firm in their faith in the Virgin of Mercedes in the Bronx .
- El Diario NY, Arts and Culture: Artistic duality brings Caribbean people from NYC closer together .
- El Diario NY, Metro: New Yorkers educate themselves on immigrant rights .

Editor’s Note: This post was updated to include the Fall internship opportunity I was given to report and aggregate content for the newspaper’s website, between September and November, 2017.
